UAE has 446 Nigerians in prison

The Nigerian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohammed Dansanta Rimi, has disclosed that a total of 446 Nigerians are currently languishing in prisons in the middle east country.

Rimi stated this on Tuesday, April 9, during President Muhammadu Buhari’s town-hall meeting with Nigerians who are based in the UAE, Daily Trust reports. He said the 446 Nigerians are in prisons over drugs and other crimes.

Recall that this disclosure is coming weeks after five Nigerians were arrested over armed robbery in Dubai. They reportedly stormed a money exchange centre in Sharjah area of Dubai to steal Dh 2.3 million Dinars.

The five suspects who were on visitors visas to Dubai include Chimuanya Ozoh, Benjamin Ajah, Kingsley Ngoka, Tochukwu Alisi and Chile Ndunagu.

The federal government has condemned the action of the robbers. The senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made this known in a statement by her media aide Abdur-Rahman Balogun on Tuesday, April 2, in Abuja.
