FG begins implementation of water for all plans

The federal government yesterday said it will spearhead any move that will ensure all Nigerians have access to potable water and quality sanitation.

Minister of Water Resources Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu gave the assurance in Abuja at the opening of a two-day workshop on the implementation of the National Action Plan for the revitalization of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).

Our water correspondent reports that the WASH programme is aimed at providing safe water, quality hygiene, and sanitation services to every household in the country.

The minister said President Muhammadu Buhari in November last year declared a state of emergency in the WASH sector because of the reported low access levels of water, sanitation and hygiene services and the consequent high prevalence of water-borne diseases in different parts of the country.

As part of the implementation, the minister said the ministry had set up national coordination offices in the states to coordinate the action plan implementation and urged the state governments to make good use of the offices in their respective states.
